“Just as those rocks tell stories through time, so do the black rocks that saw me grow up have stories to tell. (...) An open-pit quarry that showed me—from a high vantage point I managed to sneak into, between the river and the road—trucks that looked like toys at the bottom. In front of my grandfather's house, thousands of slate stones weighing tons, piled on top of each other. They made caves. Small houses. I, too, had drawn my monsters on those black walls. Recurring, daily, ephemeral drawings.”
In Monstruário (e)feitos (a)pós e outras histórias, 2016

Céu Aberto [Open Sky] stems from Monstruário – (e)feitos (a)pós e outras histórias (2016). It explores slate in all its states through an experimental approach, focusing on processes that honor the memory of the place, emotional bonds, and raw matter to reflect on themes such as natural heritage and collective identity.
